Yanshu Li's(李彥姝) dream came true at the age of 30. She has not only arrived Boston from China, but is on her way to become a business reporter. For Two years, she had been trying to pursued her parents to let her go study and achieve her dream to work as a journalist.
Due to social standards, her parents were more concerned about the so-called "real life" for her, which for women living in China, could be directly translated into marriage and kids.
Although Li is 5 feet2, she stands out from most of the first year journalism graduate students at Boston University, with her mature and stylish all-black-semi-businesse outfit. Before arriving in Boston, she was working at a coal-exporting company for five years. The exporting company is a state own business , which means its a stable and well paying job. I asked her why give up everything and become a student again?
Li recalled, "I've wanted to be a reporter since high school, but my parents insisted that i should work in the business field, since reporter is low- paying job. Being a reporter has alway seeing an impending dream for me."
People might thing that being 30 is too old for a career change, but for Li this is the greatest timing in her life, because she felt mature and independent enough to study abroad for the first time in her life. She has decide to combine her work experience and her dream to apply for the business and economic masters degree at Boston University. In return, Boston has been welcoming her with the brightest sunshine ever this summer.
